In an email update that came out three days ago, Congressman Jody Hice announced that HR 4744 passed unanimously in the House last Thursday. If you’re like me, you’re wondering what that means. Thankfully, Hice explains what it means in his email.
Bill HR 4744 is the Iran Human Rights and Hostage-Taking Accountability Act. This bill requires that the President to impose sanctions on Iranian officials who order prolonged detentions and abuses that are politically-motivated. It also requires the President to identify corrupt Iranian officials who are responsible for human rights’ violations and those who could be subjected to sanctions.
In Hice’s words, “Iran’s sponsorship of terror is amplified by its suppression of anyone who dares speak out.”
The implications this bill will have on our current political dealings with Iran, specifically on our nuclear deal, has yet to be seen.
